Lake of Ólafsfjörður

Nestled at the base of the valley, Ólafsfjarðarvatn is a unique coastal lake preserved on the Natural Heritage Register for its distinct stratified layers. A thin layer of fresh water rests over denser saltwater below, trapping heat and creating a rich, remarkably diverse aquatic ecosystem.
